Buffalo Chicken Baked Ziti - Recipe Diaries (2)
  • Ziti pasta - This recipe calls for ziti noodles but any type of pasta shape will work.
  • Lightbutter - I use light butter to help reduce the calories and points.
  • All-purpose flour is a type of wheat flour that is commonly used in cooking and baking. It is versatile and can be used for a variety of recipes, including bread, cakes, cookies, and pastries.Low-fatmilk
  • Cream cheese,room temperature
  • Franks Original Buffalo Wing Sauce - This is a must and is the main ingredient in buffalo chicken dip!
  • Ranch seasoning- I like to use the dry ranch seasoning and have not tested this recipe yet using ranch dressing. So, I don’t really know if that will work or not.
  • Chicken - Any kind of chicken will work for this. When I make a serving of buffalo chicken dip for myself, I will use canned. Cook some chicken in a crockpot or Instant pot and shred it. Just make sure it’s cooked, or else the dish will take longer to make.
  • Chivesfor garnish
  • Colby jackcheese - Adds more spice with the buffalo sauce.
  • See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

Recipe FAQs

Can I make this casserole ahead of time?

Yes, you can make this dish ahead of time. Once you have all the ingredients in the casserole dish let it cool off and place saran wrap over the dish. When ready to bake take it out of the fridge and sprinkle the cheese on top. Then bake it in the oven.

How is this a WW recipe?

On WW there is no food off-limits and everything is on the table. That is why I love this program so much. So, Let’s stop telling ourselves that we can’t eat certain foods. That’s not true. We can eat them, but sometimes we choose not to eat them.

Why is my baked ziti soupy? ›

If the pasta is cooked fully it can easily overcook while baking becoming mushy. If it is UNDERCOOKED, it will continue to cook while baking, soaking up the sauce, resulting in a dried out ziti. Cook the pasta in salted water over a SLOW BOIL. Violently boiling pasta noodles will break them down.

I always add a lot of sauce and that helps prevent the dried out top layer. Take out of the oven as soon as cheese is melted and golden. It's also important to make sure all pasta is covered with sauce.

One of the things I learnt to my cost is if you leave pasta out overnight, it is unsafe to eat due to the bacteria that grows within minutes of cooking.

To a 9×13 baking dish, add your uncooked pasta, sauce, broth, cream of choice, and spices. Mix the ingredients until well combined. Cover the baking dish with foil (see note) and place your dish in the oven in the center of your rack. Bake for 40 minutes.

Add half the pasta to the baking dish, top with dollops of the ricotta, the remaining spinach, and scoop the remaining pasta on top. Top with the mozzarella and pecorino cheese. Drizzle with olive oil and bake until the cheese is browned, 16 to 22 minutes. Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve hot.

Should you cook pasta covered or uncovered? ›

Should you cover the pasta when cooking it? It's okay to put a lid on the pot while you are waiting for the water to boil. However, after it starts to boil and you add the pasta to the water, you should remove the lid to prevent the water from bubbling over.

Should I bake my lasagna covered or uncovered? ›

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes. Remove the foil and bake until cheese is golden brown, 5 to 10 more minutes. Remove from the oven and let stand for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.

Do you put a lid on pasta bake? ›

Cover very tightly with a double layer of aluminum foil and bake for an hour. At that point the pasta will be cooked, but I like to add some shredded cheese to the top and put it back into the oven, uncovered, to melt the cheese. Then the pasta bake NEEDS TO REST for 15 minutes before serving.
