First Things First Navajo Nation Regional Partnership Council partnered with the Navajo Project Indigenous LAUNCH and the Navajo Nation Department of Behavioral and Mental Health Services to present the 2024 Diné Early Childhood Summit earlier this month. The summit highlighted the vital role of family members in advocating for the health and wellness of young children in their families. #AZFTF Senior Director of Tribal Affairs Candida L. Hunter and Community Engagement Coordinator Marlo McCabe led conversations around improving collaboration among early education and pediatric health partners throughout Navajo Nation. The summit highlighted the need for refined referral processes to better connect families in need of services.Fun fact: #FTFNavajoNation Community Engagement Coordinator Marlo McCabe's son, Kendrick McCabe, was a panelist!

📢 Calling All Neurodivergent Adults! 📢Are you looking to make a difference in the neurodivergent community? Neurodivergent Friends is actively seeking neurodivergent adults to join our board. Our motto: Nothing about us without us!Neurodivergent Friends is dedicated to providing safe and supportive social opportunities for people of all ages. Our mission is to create a community where neurodivergent individuals can find their tribe, socialize, and thrive. Our primary goal is to address the lack of supportive, safe spaces for neurodivergent individuals and those with IDD. Many of us face social isolation and need more opportunities for meaningful engagement. Neurodivergent Friends aims to create environments where friendships can flourish through special programs and advocacy.Starting locally in Harker Heights, we plan to branch out and reach more communities. We also aim to offer voluntary revokable ad-litem (not guardianship) services for adults who want help preventing exploitation, and we'll refer to the TxP2P networks program where appropriate. Let's build a supportive community together! 👐Connect with us on LinkedIn: Neurodivergent FriendsCheck out the Texas Network Connections: TxP2P Services#NeurodivergentFriends #CommunitySupport #NothingAboutUsWithoutUs #SocialOpportunities #Neurodivergence

Sharing an important set of factoids I just learned at the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) conference. Only 15.8% of health departments involved in a study that examined CHAs and CHIPs developed from 2019 onward from accredited health departments included representation from a person with a disability on the CHIP Steering Committee. However, those health departments that did, were 3.2 times more likely to have at least one objective in the community health improvement plan that was intentionally inclusive of people with disabilities. That’s why we’re working to help health departments be more intentionally inclusive of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). They experience some of the largest health disparities and are unlikely to be part of community health improvement plans in an intentionally inclusive way. I know we can do better. Special Olympics can help with that. 😊

As we celebrate this year's U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Minority Health Month theme, Be the Source for Better Health: Improving Health Outcomes Through Our Cultures, Communities, and Connections, we lift up our partners at Porter-Leath and the Early Success Coalition as they work to reduce health disparities through person- and family-centered approaches that address social drivers of health (SDOH) disproportionately burdening communities of color.Evidence-based early home visitation (EBHV) improves the health and well-being of young children and their families. In particular, culturally congruent EHBV in partnership with responsive community resources can effectively address racial and ethnic health disparities. We celebrate the ESC's Shelby County partners for their ongoing commitment to strengthen local EBHV programs and connections. These resources nurture the physical, mental, and social health of women facing health disparities—a disproportionate share of whom are women of color.🔗 Learn more about the ESC and explore their library of resources: earlysuccesscoalition.com/#MinorityHealthEquity #NMHM24 #PersonCenteredCare #EarlySuccessCoalition
