Baseball Drops Two at Marietta - John Carroll University Athletics (2024)

MARIETTA – Entering with a 5-7 record in conference play, John Carroll Baseball hoped to steal two on the road from Marietta College.

It was not meant to be, as the Blue Streaks dropped a pair at the home of Brian Brewer's crew, Pioneer Park.

JCU surrendered a 3-0 loss before a 13-5 decision in the second contest.

Game 1
Frank Freeman got the nod from Manager Bobby Bell to start, and the Chicagoan delivered a fantastic outing overall.

While the Pioneers busted out for a couple of runs in the first frame, the Saint Ignatius (IL) grad allowed just two hits the rest of his journey. Freeman provided a total of seven innings, striking out seven. That kind of outing really endears you to the bullpen coach.

But the Pios' pitching was remarkable. Jacob Rocky pitched six strong innings, scattering six hits. And while Gabe Torres allowed a pair of hits, he was otherwise flawless.

Michael Persichetti accounted for three of the team's 8 hits for the game.

Game 2
John Carroll's bats were again quiet at the outset of the second affair, not at last breaking the drought til the fifth.

Meanwhile, Austin Miller weathered storms on the rubber, allowing 4 runs through 4 innings. Erik Daugenti helped hang a crooked number in the fifth, with an RBI groundout, while a balk added a second score.

But in the fifth, the Pios made their move.

The Pioneers posted back-to-back-to-back 3-run frames to take any comeback out of JCU's hands.

Persichetti did slot an RBI single in the sixth and JCU got two across in the ninth, it was not going to be enough to overcome the Pios.
